The ancient mosaics of Ravenna

The Italian Cultural Institute in Prague is hosting the exhibition “The ancient mosaics of Ravenna” that displays the rare mosaic heritage of Ravenna with faithful copies of the originals, derived from the Mausoleum of Galla Placida and the Basilica of San Vitale, Sant’Apollinare Nuovo and Sant’Apollinare in Classe and a section dedicated to the works of twenty-six contemporary artists. Among the organizers also the City of Ravenna, the Italian Institute and the Art&Craft Mozaika association, which were involved in the “MosaiCONtempo international conference, from the mosaics of Ravenna to the present day”, that focuses on mosaic history and restoration techniques. It took place for the 12 February inauguration, with the support of the Italian and German Embassies in Prague and the Academy of Fine Arts of the Czech capital.
