Jiří Trnka – In the gardens of the imagination
The Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK) in Kutná Hora has staged the most complete retrospective ever arranged of the works of Jiří Trnka, the illustrator, writer, marionette artist and founder of the Czech animated film, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death. Entitled “In the gardens of the imagination”, it consists of two parts. The first summarizes all the fields in which the artist excelled, through drawings and paintings, sculptures, models, puppets and audiovisual projections. The second is dedicated to “The garden”, a traveling project conceived in 2015 by Jan and Matyáš Trnka, the son and grandson of the artist, who with illustrations and installations, doubling for the GASK stage, present the children’s book of the same name by Jiří Trnka (Zahrada, 1962).
