La Cappella Italiana dell’Assunzione della Vergine Maria

The volume dedicated to the history of the renovation of the Italian Chapel in Prague was published, edited by Francesco Monni, engineer and professor at the Polytechnic University of Marche. The Italian Chapel of the Assumption of Our Lady is located in the very center of the city, on Karlova Street, which connects Charles Bridge to the Old Town, and has been for centuries the landmark of the Italian community in Prague. The monument is a proof of the historical connection between the local baroque artists and the Italian masters, a building of a rare beauty and historical and religious importance, which has been closed for decades because of its severe degradation. In 2017, due to an agreement between the public and private sectors, important restoration works begun allowing the reopening of the monument, returning this establishment to both the Praguians and the Italian community. The book traces in detail, through illustrations, the project’s different stages that enabled its reopening.
