The Laterna Magika is created

Laterna Magika, created for the Czechoslovak pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World Fair, is celebrating the first 60 years of its existence this year. The National Theatre, of which Laterna Magika is a part, celebrated its anniversary last April 28-29. At the event, the inauguration of the audiovisual installation by František Pecháček was held, entitled “Sweet Sixtieth”, which told the public about the history of Laterna. On the second day, the celebrations continued in the New Scena foyer with discussions both on the history of the institution and on the present of the Laterna Magika, involving external experts and various artists of the Pavel Knolle ensemble. During the celebrations the public had the opportunity to visit the backstage, and try to imagine how the dancers feel when, during the staging, the projection starts right under their feet. At the end of May, is a presentation of a work inspired by the Laterna by the well-known artist working in the audiovisual field, Jakub Nepraš. His installation will be placed from 22 May in the external space of the National Theatre.
