The first Prague bus line is activated

Prague commemorates the 110th anniversary of the start of the first bus service in the city. Precisely on Saturday, March 7, 1908, at 8:00, in Nerudova street the gazes of incredulous citizens were fixed upon one vehicle, the bus, which for the first time in history led directly to the Castle. Initially, there were no signs of recognition on the means and even the names of the stations were added only with time. The first line started from Malostranské náměstí to Pohořelec with 9 stops, running every day from 6:00 am to 10:15 pm at an interval of 15 minutes. The transport company of that time (today DPP) was the only one to manage transport for the city of Prague, and its surroundings. One of the greatest difficulties for the activation of the service was the slope of Nerudova street. Initially, ground cableways were designed, but finally buses were opted for. However, the service did not last for a long time, it ended in November 1909 due to numerous accidents, and the Prague citizens had to wait for 16 years to get it back.
