Christmas Markets
Traditionally, the opening of the Christmas markets in Prague coincides with the beginning of Advent. According to tourists, the Christmas markets here have surpassed the ones in Vienna and London in beauty and atmosphere, being included this year in the top ten of the US newspaper US News&World Report. The lights on the Christmas tree, a 23 m high one, will be lit on December 1, at 4:30 PM and the proceedings will be repeated every hour on the notes of two different melodies. Over one hundred-twenty market stands, located between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town, offer gifts, food and hot drinks. Additionally, there will be a rich musical program with professional and amateur choirs, theatrical performances and cartoons for children and the possibility to make donations to certain associations for sick children or ones in difficulty.
