Golden Prague

Zlatá Praha, Golden Prague, is the title of the exhibition held at the Museum of the City of Prague that takes visitors from the 1860s to the 1890s, thirty years in which the capital experienced extraordinary urban, architectural and technical development, transforming from a provincial town of the Austrian monarchy to the lively metropolis of a nation in full revival. The population doubled, which called for the construction of bridges, railways, schools, associations and banks. The symbol of the new cultural and economic strength was the 1891 Jubilee Exhibition. The exhibition, sponsored by the Minister of Culture Hana Třeštíková, traces these changes, captured in images and texts of the time published in the illustrated magazines Zlatá Praha, Květy and Světozor.
